Ready for a challenge? | Spoman OS

Can you design a future without plastic waste?

The SPOMAN collaboration has for the past 2 years been working for development of new materials and a big subject in this development is sustainability!

In November 2018 and February 2019 entire Open Science Seminars focused on sustainability and biopolymers. This, because both researchers and industry of the SPOMAN Open Science community are very invested in these topics. Now, also the Danish government wants to know how we can use all our gathered knowledge to save the planet.

The ministry of higher education invites new research-based solutions on three big subjects to the Green Challenge. The Green challenge focus on ways to convert COin to valuable resources, creating a future without plastic waste, and new approaches to feeding the growing population.

All our knowledge, know-how, and competences within the field of materials and sustainability may be rewarded with a prize of 9 mio. DDK. All we have to do is create a solution on the plastic-challenge…

How do we ensure better reuse of plastic? The goal is that at least 50% of plastic is reused in 2025. The ministry of higher education suggest, this can be done through better trash-sorting and handling or through methods allowing us to detect the different components of plastics.

But maybe you have an even better solution?

Then first step is to create a team capable of lifting the challenge. The team must contain at least one researcher from a Danish university. Possible solutions are to be handed in from medio 2020 until August 2023

The solution will be judged based on the following:

  • Expected reduction of the negative impact on climate- and environment
  • Research quality and innovation
  • Scalability – will the solution be widespread within a short timeframe

The prize will bring the project past SPOMAN level: prototyping, scaling and implementing.

On April 30, The Open Science Seminar has been converted into a workshop meeting – an incubator for new projects and collaborations, so why not take the first step towards saving the world begin on April 30? Register for the meeing here.

Let the research begin!
